Alessio Lisci: 'Not Our Best, But Point Streak Continues'

Osasuna head coach Alessio Lisci addressed reporters Friday night after his team’s 0-0 draw against Elche at the Martínez Valero.

“It probably wasn’t our best performance, but this is a tough venue. When you’re not at your best, it’s important to earn a draw,” Lisci told DAZN. “We’re continuing our positive run, picking up points, and now have 30 in the standings.”

During the press conference, the Italian mentioned, “I’ll be honest, if any team deserved to win, it was Elche. That’s obvious. Both teams had clear chances—Elche had more, no doubt. Earlier this season, I thought we deserved to win and we split the points; today, it was the opposite. I have no problem admitting that.”

Discussing the match, Lisci said, “Given their physical power and direct playing style, we weren’t as aggressive in pressing as usual. Sometimes that worked, but other times it allowed them to create chances, just as we did when winning the ball. In the final minutes, [forward] Ante Budimir had a header and a one-on-one, [forward] Víctor Muñoz had a chance in the first half, [forward] Raúl García had one cleared off the line, and [midfielder] Aimar Oroz had a late opportunity. Those were clear chances.”

“We haven’t been as clinical, especially near their goalkeeper,” Lisci added. “That connection between their goalkeeper and [forward] Álvaro Rodríguez is important for them.”
